Do you store service kits and parts for brands and some specific models?
We do stock generic replacement parts such as hoses, O-rings, Apeks service kits, Tecline service kits, Scubapro Service kits (some model), but in general we do not keep high volume of service kits. And we do not stock non-service interval replacement parts and hardwares.
How long does it takes for a regulator service?
Our normal service schedule is 7-14 days after confirmation. This includes time for us to get service kits ready for you, putting hours of work into them, and testing them before sending them back underwater.
Some regulators come in extreme conditions, and while verdigris is easily cleaned by a acidic solution. Aggressive cleaning usually results in changes in metal finishing, at best, and change metal composition, at worse.
So it take us time to carefully work and test on your dive equipment.
Plan promptly, and give ample time for your regulator to be serviced.
Do you need to change service kits every service interval?
We separate this issue into 3 different category
- Overhaul service interval which comes every 1 to 3 years according to manufacturers' recommendations
- Mid-cycle inspection (or pre-service inspection with Dive Gear Garage) is an inspection without complete tear down, it may require cleaning, but not required to change service kits.
- On condition service, a more off standard, but preferred among experienced divers. It is where the regulator gets serviced only when it shows signs needed for service, or having big trips coming up. Then specifically let us know they do not want service kits replaced. This is specifically NOT recommended by any standards, but a more practical approach for those who preferred to save more costs, particularly divers who own multiple regulators.
There is green patches on my regulator, is that worrying?
Yes, these green patches you found on metal parts of your regulator are verdigris. It is a form of active corrosion that eats away your regulator. If verdigris is found on your regulator, there is a good chance that the plating of that area is already damaged.
If verdigris found within 12 months, it is very likely that the damage is very minor after cleaning. However, damage will get more severe when left untreated.
Thus the reason we recommend you let us do a deep clean at least once a year to maintain your regulator finishing throughout its lifetime.
What happened if I forgot to service my regulator for a long time?
If you do a thorough cleaing after dive, and really lucky, then there will be no problem.
But luck rarely on your side.
The verdigris that is eating away your metal, salt water that may have entered your regulator may seeped into the threads and tiny holes, eventually could cause blockage on high pressure port. Seized threads on other parts.
Taking them seized parts will be difficult. There are several techniques to unseized the threads, however, many times it resulted in brute force which scarred the parts even if we always use proper tools. Brass is a soft metal and although we use tools with softer metals, sometimes polymer, force needed to turn may be stronger than force needed to deform the metal.
How many years does a set of scuba regulator lasts?
This question really depends on the brand. We have seen models that plastic literally disintigrate with the technician grip force. That regulator model was 20 years old. So let's take 20 years as a baseline that any regulator should last at least 10 years of use.
Our affiliated dive centers and instructors still using regulators that is over 20 years old, but regularly maintained and over thousands of dives later they still have life for at least several thousands more.
Drop us a message and we'll let you know your unit's servicability.
I have really old scuba regulator, can they be serviced?
The answer is yes and no, it is really brand dependent on the stock service kits and replacement parts.
